Icon Homz – Republic Day in India

With everyday in life having its own importance, let us look at why we celebrate the Republic Day in India. Our country is called the Republic of India. Technically a republic is a form of government in which power resides in the people and the government is ruled by elected leaders run according to law.
Independence Day and Republic Day are two important days in our country which reflects the struggle for freedom and sense of responsibility that every citizen carries in their shoulder. As a responsible citizen of the country we should try doing the best for our country’s benefit and growth while knowing the importance of the freedom that we hold so proud!
Republic Day was officially first celebrated on January 26, 1950 even though we got Independence in 1947. This is because it took two years to properly finalise all points in our constitution which has been inspired by the best of all governing bodies around the world.
The Constitution is written by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He is known as the father of Indian Constitution. A draft of the constitution of India was presented on November 4, 1947, it took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to finalise the constitution of India. Two copies of the document were signed by the Assembly on January 24, 1950. Both of the originally hand-written Indian Constitution copies are kept safely in the helium-filled cases at the Library of Parliament House.
No nation in this world has a constitution which is as long as our constitution. It is the longest constitution in the world. It is not possible to read our constitution in one day. Let us be proud of our nation which promotes unity in diversity and be responsible and proud citizens!
